Uses / Indications

Telma 80mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – helps in patients requiring higher strength for control.

• Reduces risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease caused by uncontrolled hypertension.

• Protects kidney function in patients with Type 2 Diabetes & high BP.

• May be used in combination with other blood pressure-lowering medicines.

Mechanism of Action

• Telmisartan is an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB).

• Blocks the action of angiotensin II (a hormone that tightens blood vessels).

• Causes relaxation and widening of blood vessels → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves blood circulation and reduces heart workload.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 40–80 mg once daily (depending on patient’s condition).

• 80 mg once daily is the maximum recommended dose.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Should be taken at the same time each day.

• Do not stop medication suddenly without doctor’s advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, lightheadedness

• Fatigue, weakness

• Stomach upset, diarrhea

• Back pain, muscle cramps

Serious but rare:

• Severe low blood pressure (hypotension)

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Kidney function impairment

• Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with:

  • Kidney or liver disease

  • Heart failure

  • Electrolyte imbalance (high potassium)

• Not safe in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• Avoid alcohol (may worsen dizziness).

• Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium levels is advised.

Drug Interactions

• Other blood pressure medicines

• Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effectiveness & harm kidneys)

• Lithium (increases risk of toxicity)
