Uses / Indications

Telmikind 20mg Tablet is used for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – helps maintain normal blood pressure.

• Reducing long-term risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney problems caused by uncontrolled BP.

• Protecting kidney function in patients with Type 2 Diabetes and high BP.

• May be prescribed alone or with other antihypertensive drugs.

Mechanism of Action

• Telmisartan belongs to the class Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs).

• Blocks angiotensin II hormone → prevents tightening of blood vessels.

• Causes relaxation and widening of blood vessels → lowers blood pressure.

• Reduces strain on the heart and improves circulation.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 20 mg once daily.

• May be increased to 40–80 mg once daily depending on BP response.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Should be taken at the same time every day.

• Do not stop the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, lightheadedness

• Fatigue, weakness

• Stomach upset, diarrhea

• Back pain, muscle cramps

Serious but rare:

• Severe fall in blood pressure

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Kidney function impairment

• Allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution if you have:

  • Kidney or liver disease

  • Heart failure

  • Electrolyte imbalance (high potassium levels)

• Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• Avoid alcohol (may worsen dizziness).

Drug Interactions

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effect & damage kidneys)

• Lithium (increases risk of toxicity)
