• Telmisartan 80 mg

Uses / Indications

Telmikind 80mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – in patients not adequately controlled on lower doses (20 mg or 40 mg).

• Reducing risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease associated with uncontrolled BP.

• Protecting kidney function in patients with Type 2 Diabetes and hypertension.

• Often prescribed alone or in combination therapy with other antihypertensives.

Mechanism of Action

• Telmisartan is an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB).

• Blocks angiotensin II hormone → prevents narrowing of blood vessels.

• Relaxes and dilates blood vessels → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves blood circulation and reduces strain on the heart.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 40–80 mg once daily.

• 80 mg once daily is the maximum recommended dose.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Take at the same time each day.

• Do not stop treatment abruptly without doctor’s advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, lightheadedness

• Fatigue, headache

• Stomach upset, diarrhea

• Back pain, muscle cramps

Serious but rare:

• Very low blood pressure (hypotension)

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Impaired kidney function

• Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty)

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with:

  • Kidney or liver disease

  • Heart failure

  • Electrolyte imbalance (high potassium levels)

• Not safe in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

• Avoid alcohol (may worsen dizziness).

• Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium levels is advised.

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensives (additive effect)

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effect & affect kidneys)

• Lithium (may increase toxicity risk)
