• Telmisartan 40 mg

Uses / Indications

Telsar 40mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – standard strength commonly used.

• Lowering risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease due to uncontrolled BP.

• Protecting kidneys in patients with Type 2 Diabetes & hypertension.

• May be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs.

Mechanism of Action

• Telmisartan is an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB).

• Blocks angiotensin II → prevents narrowing of blood vessels.

• Relaxes and widens arteries → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves blood circulation and reduces strain on the heart.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 40 mg once daily.

• Depending on response, dose may be adjusted between 20–80 mg daily.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Take at the same time every day.

• Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, lightheadedness

• Headache, fatigue

• Stomach upset, diarrhea

• Muscle pain, back pain

Serious but rare:

• Severe low blood pressure (hypotension)

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Kidney function impairment

Drug Interactions

• Potassium supplements / potassium-sparing diuretics

• Lithium (risk of toxicity)
