Composition

• Telmisartan 80 mg

Uses / Indications

Telsar 80mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – for patients not controlled with lower strengths (20mg or 40mg).

• Reducing long-term risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney complications.

• Protecting kidney function in patients with Type 2 Diabetes and high BP.

• Often used alone or in combination therapy with other BP-lowering drugs.

Mechanism of Action

• Telmisartan belongs to Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs).

• Blocks angiotensin II hormone → prevents narrowing of blood vessels.

• Relaxes and widens arteries → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves blood circulation and reduces strain on the heart.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 40–80 mg once daily.

• 80 mg once daily is the maximum recommended dose.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Take at the same time each day.

• Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Fatigue, weakness

• Stomach upset, diarrhea

• Back pain, muscle cramps

Serious but rare:

• Very low blood pressure (hypotension)

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Kidney function impairment

Precautions & Warnings

  • Kidney or liver disease

  • Electrolyte imbalance (high potassium levels)

Drug Interactions

• Other antihypertensive drugs (additive effect)

• Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics

• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac – may reduce effect & harm kidneys)

• Lithium (may increase toxicity risk)
