Composition:

• Tenofovir Alafenamide – 25 mg

Drug Class:

Antiviral / Antiretroviral Medicine

Uses:

• Treatment of HIV-1 infection (always used in combination with other antiretroviral medicines)

• Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) infection

• Helps in reducing viral load and slows the progression of the disease

Mechanism of Action (How it Works):

• Tenofovir alafenamide is converted into Tenofovir inside the body

• Tenofovir blocks the action of viral DNA polymerase (an enzyme needed for the virus to multiply)

• Prevents replication of HIV and HBV

• Strengthens the immune system to fight against infections

Dosage:

• Usual dose: One tablet (25 mg) once daily

• Best taken after food

• Take the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor

• Do not stop suddenly, otherwise Hepatitis B symptoms may worsen

Side Effects:

Common:

• Headache

• Fatigue

• Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

• Abdominal pain

• Loss of appetite

Serious (but rare):

• Kidney problems (renal impairment)

• Weakening of bones (osteoporosis)

• Lactic acidosis (very rare but serious)

• Liver failure (rare)

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems

• Use with caution in pregnant or breastfeeding women (only under medical supervision)

• Do not stop the medicine suddenly

• Avoid alcohol (may worsen liver damage)
