• Valsartan 40 mg

Uses / Indications

Valzaar 40mg Tablet is prescribed for:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) – to lower and maintain blood pressure.

• Heart Failure – improves symptoms and survival.

• Post-Myocardial Infarction (after heart attack) – reduces risk of further cardiovascular events.

• Protects kidneys and heart from long-term complications of high BP.

Mechanism of Action

• Valsartan is an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB).

• Blocks angiotensin II hormone → prevents tightening of blood vessels.

• Relaxes and widens arteries → lowers blood pressure.

• Improves blood flow, reduces strain on the heart, and protects kidneys.

Dosage & Administration

• Usual adult dose: 40–160 mg per day, depending on the condition.

• For hypertension: starting dose is usually 40 mg once or twice daily.

• For heart failure/post-MI: may be combined with other medicines (beta-blockers, diuretics).

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Take at the same time daily.

• Do not discontinue suddenly without medical advice.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Fatigue, weakness

• Low blood pressure

• Stomach upset

Serious but rare:

• High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Kidney impairment

Precautions & Warnings
