- +

Generic Composition:

  • Glimepiride 1 mg (Sulfonylurea)

  • Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg (Biguanide)

Category: Oral Anti-Diabetic (Dual Combination)

Description:

Zoryl M 1 Tablet is a combination anti-diabetic medicine used in the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus when diet, exercise, and monotherapy are not enough to control blood sugar.

  • Glimepiride stimulates the pancreas to release insulin, thereby lowering blood sugar.

  • Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver, delays glucose absorption from the intestine, and improves the body’s insulin sensitivity.

Together, they provide effective control of fasting and post-meal glucose levels and help reduce the risk of long-term diabetes complications like kidney damage, nerve problems, eye disease, heart disease, and stroke.

Uses:

  • Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

  • Controls both fasting and postprandial (after-meal) glucose

  • Helps prevent long-term complications associated with diabetes

Mechanism of Action:

  • Glimepiride (1 mg): Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells → lowers blood sugar

  • Metformin (500 mg): Reduces hepatic glucose production, slows intestinal absorption of glucose, improves insulin sensitivity

  • Combined effect: Comprehensive glycemic control with improved insulin action and secretion

Dosage & Administration:

  • Typically 1 tablet once or twice daily with meals (as prescribed by doctor)

  • Must be taken with food to minimize gastric upset and reduce risk of hypoglycemia

  • Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew

  • Regular monitoring of blood sugar and HbA1c is advised

Common Side Effects:

  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): sweating, dizziness, shakiness, hunger

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset (Metformin-related)

  • Headache, weakness

  • Weight gain (possible with Glimepiride)

Serious Side Effects (rare):

  • Lactic acidosis (Metformin): muscle pain, fatigue, difficulty breathing

  • Severe hypoglycemia (especially if meals are skipped)

  • Liver dysfunction – yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine

  • Allergic reactions: rash, swelling, breathing difficulty

Warnings & Precautions:

  • Not for Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis

  • Avoid in severe kidney or liver impairment

  • Avoid alcohol (increases risk of lactic acidosis & hypoglycemia)

  • Use cautiously in elderly patients

  • Regular monitoring of blood sugar, kidney, and liver function is necessary
