- +

Generic Composition:

  • Glimepiride 2 mg (Sulfonylurea)

  • Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg (Biguanide)

Category: Oral Anti-Diabetic (Dual Combination)

Description:

Zoryl M 2 Tablet is a combination anti-diabetic medicine used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus when diet, exercise, and single therapy are insufficient to control blood sugar levels.

  • Glimepiride lowers blood sugar by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin.

  • Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver, delays sugar absorption in the intestines, and enhances insulin sensitivity.

Together, they provide better control of fasting and postprandial (after-meal) blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of long-term complications such as kidney damage, nerve issues, heart disease, and eye damage.

Uses:

  • Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

  • Helps regulate both fasting and post-meal glucose

  • Reduces risk of complications related to diabetes

Mechanism of Action:

  • Glimepiride (2 mg): Stimulates pancreatic beta cells → increases insulin secretion → lowers blood sugar

  • Metformin (500 mg): Reduces hepatic glucose production, slows intestinal sugar absorption, improves insulin sensitivity

  • Combined effect: Comprehensive glycemic control by targeting insulin release and resistance

Dosage & Administration:

  • Typically 1 tablet once or twice daily with meals (as prescribed by doctor)

  • Must be taken with food to reduce gastric side effects and hypoglycemia risk

  • Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew

  • Regular monitoring of blood glucose and HbA1c is recommended

Common Side Effects:

  • Hypoglycemia (sweating, dizziness, shakiness, hunger)

  • Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort (Metformin-related)

  • Headache, weakness

  • Weight gain (possible with Glimepiride)

Serious Side Effects (rare):

  • Lactic acidosis (from Metformin): muscle pain, extreme fatigue, breathing difficulty

  • Severe hypoglycemia (if meals skipped or excess exercise)

  • Liver dysfunction – yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine

  • Severe allergic reactions – rash, swelling, difficulty breathing

Warnings & Precautions:

  • Not for Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis

  • Avoid in severe kidney or liver disease

  • Avoid alcohol (increases risk of lactic acidosis & hypoglycemia)

  • Use with caution in elderly patients and heart disease patients

  • Regular monitoring of blood glucose, kidney, and liver function is essential
