Description

Oflomac 200 Tablet contains Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic.
It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, thereby killing the bacteria.
It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections in adults.


Uses / Indications

  • Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)

  • ENT infections (sinusitis, otitis media, tonsillitis)

  • Urinary tract infections (UTI), cystitis, pyelonephritis

  • Gastrointestinal infections (infective diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid fever)

  • Skin & soft tissue infections

  • Bone and joint infections

  • Sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhea, chlamydia)


Dosage (General Guidance)

(As prescribed by physician)

  • Adults: Usually 200 mg twice daily (400 mg/day)

  • Duration: 5–14 days depending on infection type and severity

Route: Oral
Advice: Take with water, preferably before or after meals; avoid dairy products or antacids close to dosing time


Side Effects

  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset

  • Diarrhea, abdominal pain

  • Headache, dizziness, insomnia

  • Rash, itching (allergy)

  • Rare but serious: Tendonitis/tendon rupture, seizures, peripheral neuropathy, QT prolongation


Precautions / Warnings

  • Not effective for viral infections (cold, flu)

  • Avoid in children, pregnancy, and breastfeeding (risk of joint & cartilage damage)

  • Use with caution in elderly patients, seizure disorders, tendon disorders, or heart rhythm problems

  • Avoid excessive sunlight exposure (photosensitivity risk)

  • Complete full antibiotic course to prevent resistance


Drug Interactions

  • Antacids, iron, calcium (↓ absorption of Ofloxacin)

  • Warfarin (↑ bleeding risk)

  • Corticosteroids (↑ risk of tendon rupture)

  • Anti-arrhythmic drugs (↑ QT prolongation risk)
