Generic Name: Voglibose 0.3 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg
Category: Oral Anti-Diabetic (Alpha-Glucosidase Inhibitor + Biguanide Combination)
Description:
Volix-M 0.3/500 mg Tablet is a combination medicine used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It contains Voglibose (an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor) and Metformin (a biguanide).
-
Voglibose (0.3 mg): Slows down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine, preventing a rapid rise in blood sugar after meals (postprandial hyperglycemia).
-
Metformin (500 mg): Reduces glucose production in the liver, decreases intestinal glucose absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity.
Together, they provide better overall glycemic control, especially for patients who struggle with post-meal sugar spikes.
Uses:
-
Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
-
Helps reduce post-meal blood sugar fluctuations
-
Prevents long-term complications such as kidney damage, nerve issues, eye damage, heart disease, and stroke
Mechanism of Action:
-
Voglibose: Inhibits alpha-glucosidase enzyme → delays carbohydrate breakdown → prevents sudden blood sugar rise after meals
-
Metformin: Lowers hepatic glucose output, increases insulin sensitivity, slows intestinal glucose absorption
-
Combined effect: Controls both fasting and post-meal blood sugar levels effectively
